Stage one – Cleaning your wax jacket
We clean the jacket using cold water and a sponge, wiping the outside of the jacket. We avoid hot water and never use soap as it removes the wax coating and will permanently damage the jacket and it will not be able to be rewaxed
Stage two – We soften the wax
Using a tin of Barbour Wax dressing, we place it in water hot enough to soften the wax. It takes about 20 minutes to melt the wax into a liquid consistency.
Stage three – Waxing your jacket
Using a cloth or sponge, we work the melted wax well into the jacket paying particular attention to seams, creases and dry patches. We wipe off any excess wax and keeping the wax tin in the hot water in order to keep the wax softened. We avoid wax near the corduroy collar, the inside of the jacket and inside of the pockets.
Stage four – Drying the jacket
We dry the jacket with specialist equipment to ensure the even spread of wax. The jacket is hung and allowed to dry completely overnight in a warm place. The jacket will lose excess wax for a short time so be careful near delicate items.
We recommend you have your waxed jacket re-waxed once a year.
